Over the years, many philanthropists and government agencies have deployed substantial resources towards development. However, in countries like India, these resources have translated to development by grassroots structures of small and medium-sized non-profit organizations. As compared to for-profit structures, these structures are often overlooked and chronically underinvested. We believe it is time to take a closer look and reconsider the implications of capital allocation in this direction. We invite you to share your experience with  us and to engage in a stimulating conversation about this subject.

Social Synergy Foundation (https://www.sosynergy.org/) is a non-profit based out of India, assisting small and medium-sized non-profits and funders on the business of institution-building of non-profit structures. In the last decade, SoSynergy has worked with over fifty small and medium sized non-profits and five international funders.

Abhishek Kadam is a founder and Managing Director of Social Synergy Foundation. He has experience in investment banking, management consulting, fund-raising, and start-up support. For the last ten years, Abhishek has been actively engaged with the organisations working on building community resilience, increasing participation in local decision making, urban habitat, strengthening women’s agency, improving family economic sustainability, micro-insurance, and sustainable natural resource management.

Martin Vogelsang is a member of the Board of Social Synergy Foundation, as well as the Coordinator of Bundesinitiative Impact Investing, the former German National Advisory Board on Impact Investing (NAB) which is a member of the Global Steering Group (GSG). Previously Martin worked as the DACH representative of the European Venture Philanthropy Association and spent several years in India incubating start-up social enterprises.

Florian Oberhofer is a German Social Entrepreneur living in Shillong, India. Flo has been active in various projects related to Clean-Tech and Agriculture. With his venture EdibleForest he promotes Food Forests in India to protect biodiversity, restore soil and provide nutritious fruit and vegetables to local communities. More recently, he has been partnering with the IIM Calcutta Innovation Park to build up the rural start-up ecosystem in the North-East states of India including Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
